January 2007
January Synopsis
January started with some rain but not much by Mattole standards.
After a brief excursion into the 60's, temperatures dropped sharply to the coldest in about eight years, breaking
the station record all-time low of 31 by one degree on the 12th, and then dropping that record to 28F on the morning
of the 13th. The 46F maximum on the 12th, tied the all-time min/max record and the 45F maximum on the 17th was
a new record for the station. The month remained dry and cold, breaking the previous coldest one month average
temperature record by more than two degrees, averaging 46.1F (previous record was 48.8F). The monthly total precipitation
was less than 20% of the previous driest January (since 1998). JH reported the driest January since he began keeping
records in 1988.
