December 2006
December Synopsis
December started out dry with daily highs close to 60F and nights
in the low 40's and upper 30's, thanks to a high pressure ridge. By the 8th, the ridge had weakened, bringing rain.
With the first warm front, temperatures reached 64F, just 4F off the December record high for this station. The
second week of December has been characterized by warm rains with frequent frontal passages bring moderate amounts
of rain. A minimum of 57F was recorded on the 14th, just two degrees shy of the December record max min, just before
a cold front moved thru, dropping highs into the low 50's and lows in the 30's. The 34F on the 18th ties the coldest
temperature for December. A good period of warm rains around Christmas produced the heaviest rainfall of the month
but then weather turned cold and dry, making this the coldest December ever at this station. The calendar year
wraps up also as the coldest ever at this station, the 57.2F annual average being 0.1F below the previous record
set in 2002.
